About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join our team. We are open to candidates from any location, but we place a high value on fluent English communication skills (both written and verbal) to ensure seamless collaboration within our international team.
You will be responsible for building robust backend systems, integrating front-end elements, and guiding architectural decisions. If you are passionate about clean code, scalability, and working in a remote-first environment, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Architect, design, and implement new features and improvements for our core web applications using Ruby on Rails .
- System Architecture: Lead the design of long-lasting, resilient infrastructure capable of operating at scale. Evaluate and improve the security and performance of critical application components .
- Collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, QA, and Front-end developers to define project requirements and timelines. Participate in daily stand-ups and sprint planning .
- Code Quality: Maintain high standards for code quality, security, and maintainability. Write unit and integration tests (RSpec) and perform code reviews for peers .
- Database Management: Oversee database management (PostgreSQL/MySQL), ensuring efficient data access and query optimization .
- Mentorship: Mentor junior team members by reviewing code, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of technical excellence .
Required Skills & Experience
- Core Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in back-end web development specifically with **Ruby on Rails** .
- Language: Fluent English speaking skills (must be able to articulate technical decisions clearly in a remote setting) .
- Databases: Strong experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) .
- Version Control: Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows (Pull Requests, code reviews) .
- Testing: Experience with testing frameworks (RSpec is preferred) .
- Cloud & Deployment: Experience with cloud providers (AWS/Heroku) and understanding of CI/CD pipelines .
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and a proactive attitude .
Nice to Have
- Experience with front-end technologies (JavaScript, Stimulus, React, or Hotwire/Turbo) .
- Experience with performance tooling (NewRelic, Scout, etc.) .
- Experience with Docker/Kubernetes .
