The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Ruby on Rails Developer to design, develop, and maintain the backend powering the Wishew platform.

Scope & Responsibilities

Own the backend architecture of Wishew, implemented primarily in Ruby on Rails.
Design, implement, and document RESTful APIs consumed by native iOS and Android applications.
Work extensively with PostgreSQL, including advanced query optimisation, indexing strategies, and data-model evolution.
Build secure and scalable services in a distributed cloud environment (mainly AWS, with some GCP components for AI-related workloads).
Implement business logic around social features, wish mechanics, feed ranking, notifications, payments, user management, and content moderation.
Collaborate with mobile developers, product, and design teams to define technical solutions and deliver end-to-end features.
Ensure reliability, performance, observability, and security across the backend.
Participate in code reviews, architectural decisions, and process improvements.
Contribute to the evolution of our API-first design approach and internal tooling.

Requirements

5+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails in production-grade systems.
Solid understanding of database design, query performance and distributed system patterns.
Experience building and maintaining public APIs used by mobile apps.
Strong background in security, authentication, and data privacy.
Ability to translate product requirements into reliable, maintainable backend features.
Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment with high ownership and autonomy.
Excellent communication skills and team-oriented mindset.

Nice to Have

Experience with social networks, content-driven platforms or payment flows.
Familiarity with AI-augmented systems and vector-based search.
Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS + GCP).
Knowledge of mobile development constraints and client–server interactions.
